ABOUT US

CPT Inc. was formed to provide the geotechnical and environmental engineering industry a reliable, cost effective, and personable cone penetration testing alternative. Our exemplary staff is committed to providing 100% customer satisfaction.

STAFF

John Rogie, PG, EIT, CPT Inc.’s president and principal rig operator, is a California registered Professional Geologist.  Prior to forming CPT Inc., John worked as a project geologist and staff engineer on geotechnical investigations for projects located in liquefaction hazard zones, and is familiar with Special Publication 117 and using CPT data to model liquefaction and settlement potential. John was also a member of the Volcano Hazards Team of the Menlo Park Water Resources division of the US Geological Survey from 1999 to 2002. John’s research at the USGS focused on monitoring vadose zone gas flow in areas of volcanic unrest and hydrothermal systems. John has published in Earth & Planetary Science Letters and the Journal of Geophysical Research on the topics of soil gas monitoring and time-series analysis of meteorological influence on crustal permeability assessment.

Education:

Colorado School of Mines, Golden, Colorado
B.S. Geological Engineering, 2006, recipient of The Brunton Award
(Distinguished Graduate in Geology)

"I look forward to establishing your trust in CPT Inc.’s ability to provide reliable CPT services at an excellent value!"

Mike Hutnak, PhD, fills in for John when he’s not available, and when needed offers additional consulting expertise in areas of hydrologic modeling. Dr. Hutnak has a diverse academic background in Earth Sciences, comprised of hydrogeology, oceanography, marine geology and geophysics, and volcanology. Dr. Hutnak has broad experience in field data collection (geophysical, geological, and geochemical) using a wide variety of direct sampling and remote acquisition methods, and has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals such as Science and Nature. Dr. Hutnak is also a skilled numerical modeler, familiar with a variety of groundwater flow models and computational platforms.

Education:

University of California at Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz, CA
Ph.D. Earth Sciences Department (emphasis in Fluid and Heat Transport in Seafloor Hydrothermal Systems)

University of Washington, Seattle, WA
B.S. Oceanography Department (emphasis in Marine Geology and Geophysics)

Jerry Droze has been with CPT Inc. since inception, and is very proud of his perfect attendance and safety record (no missed work for any reason and no safety mishaps). In addition to being an indispensable field helper, Jerry handles all of CPT Inc.’s equipment and vehicle maintenance and he is also the company Safety Officer.
